Liberty County, located in Southeast Georgia 40 miles from Savannah, was founded February 5, 1777, and named for the American ideal of liberty.  The county has a total area of 603 square miles of which 490 square miles is land and 113 square miles is water.  Hinesville is the largest municipality in the county and serves as the county seat.  Liberty County employs 500 full-time and 100 part-time employees assigned to 35 departments providing services to the community.  The current General Fund budget totals approximately $62 million dollars.
