The City of Auburn is seeking a dynamic and accomplished City Manager to take the reins of one of the friendliest small cities in the State of California. The City of Auburn is a full-service city operating under a City Council/Manager form of government. As the liaison between City departments and the City Council, the City Manager offers insight and expert analysis to assist the Mayor and Council in formulating and implementing short- and long-range goals for City growth and management. In addition to day-to-day operations, the City Manager will focus on efforts to further enhance the community’s vibrancy, increase the marketability of light industrial manufacturing opportunities, enhance customer service, and ensure public safety and the long-term protection of the community. The City Manager also engages the community and its strong volunteer base, builds consensus, and facilitates partnerships with a wide variety of public and private sector stakeholders to ensure that the ongoing business of planning Auburn’s future remains a highly inclusive and collaborative process.
The ideal candidate will be a decisive and collaborative leader with a strong grasp of municipal planning, finance, budgeting, labor, and operations. With broad experience navigating the politics of local governance, the successful candidate will be a champion of inclusive, transparent, and customer service-oriented government. The City Manager will operate with integrity and professionalism, come up to speed quickly and be quick on their feet. The ideal candidate will bring a general understanding of key local government financial issues, economic development, and public safety. A Bachelor’s degree with major course work in public administration, business administration, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is desirable.
The incumbent City Manager’s salary is currently $244,639. The salary for the incoming City Manager is negotiable and dependent upon experience and qualifications.
