The salary range for this position is $117,215 to 178,167 +/- DOQ/E. A generous benefit package including health and dental insurance, 401K contribution and participation in the NC Local Government Retirement System is also offered by the city.

The City of Shelby, NC (population 22,000), centrally located between Asheville and Charlotte in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina. Shelby is home of the American Legion World Series, the Don Gibson Theater and Earl Scruggs Center. The community also has great schools and is known as the City of Pleasant Living.
GovHR is assisting the City of Shelby recruit their next City Attorney. The City Attorney reports to the City Manager and works as the legal advisor to the City Council, City Administration, City Staff and various boards and commissions. The City Attorney assists city in acquiring property, reviews contract, engages in litigation, provides legal advice and recommendation to City Administration and City Council. The City Attorney also analyzes Federal and State legislation and assists City in quasi-lobbying functions.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor with license to practice law in North Carolina and experience in the practice of law, preferably in public law is required.
Must have a comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, statutes, and court decisions.
Must understand principles and applications of civil, criminal, and administrative law and judicial procedures.
Must be able to identify and respond to community and City Council issues, concerns, and needs by presenting statements of law, fact, and arguments clearly and logically.
Must be a proven leader with strong communication skills with a record of working with elected officials and staff
