Under the sole direction of the City Council, the City Attorney serves as the chief legal advisor to the City, including the City Council, City Boards and Commissions, City Manager, and City staff relating to all of their official duties. The City Attorney will attend City Council meetings and will be responsible for providing legal advice to the City, reviewing or preparing ordinances, resolutions, bonds, contracts, policies, and other written instruments, prosecuting ordinance violations, and representing the City in court and administrative matters. The city may invite candidates for onsite or virtual interviews after a complete review of references, background, and academic verifications with the applicant’s authorization.

 The target hiring range will be $184k - $215k ($88.4615/hr - $103.3653/hr).

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado. At least five years of experience as a practicing attorney is required; municipal experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

• Solid knowledge of the principles and procedures of municipal, state, federal, civil, business, and constitutional law
• Solid knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of evidence
• Solid knowledge of local ordinances, state and federal laws, and constitutional provisions affecting municipal operations
