Reporting to the Mayor and City Administrator the Director of Neighborhood, Housing & Human Services will provide strategic direction for a high functioning team through the direction and alignment of diverse programs and activities of Community, Housing and Human Services (CHHS), MySpokane/311, Office of Neighborhood Services, Community Engagement and other community initiatives, Through effective leadership, the Director will administer the delivery of neighborhood, community, and human services to citizens and develop and promote policy on solutions to affordable housing, homelessness, community development and public safety. The Director must be a clear communicator with the ability to comprehend and articulate complex matters and decisions that have significant community impact.
Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that would likely provide the relevant knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. Generally this will include:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in social sciences, human services, community development, public administration or closely related field.
Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible administrative and progressive leadership experience in the field of community development, human services, public administration or closely related field.
Experience working with the chronically homeless highly desired.
Three (3) years' managerial experience in directing the staff and programs of a complex government unit, such as a department or division primarily engaged in community development, grants, neighborhood services, planning and/or community engagement.
Experience with civil service systems and collective bargaining is highly desired.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
