The purpose of this position is to act as the main enforcing officer of the Florida Building Code, as mandated by State Statute, and other applicable codes and standards. Work includes the interpretation of and recommendations for changes in legal provisions governing the construction and use of buildings. This is highly responsible managerial, technical and administrative work of considerable difficulty in directing and coordinating the operations of the Building Division of the Development Services Department.
This class works independently, under the general supervision of the Director of Development Services.
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in business or public administration, architecture, engineering, construction management, or closely related field; or a minimum of eight years of specialized training in construction.
Requires five years of administrative experience in the building industry, preferably in a municipal government, at least two years of which involved supervisory responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Building Code Administrator Certification; State of Florida Administrators and Inspectors Board at the time of hire.
Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Additional Salary Information: Five (5) PTO Days are given upon hire to administrative staff in addition to the standard leave accruals.
