The Town of Amherst is an historic community with deep roots in agriculture, education, industry, and literature. Past home to Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost, Amherst hosts three institutions of higher learning—the UMass flagship campus, Amherst College, and Hampshire College, with combined enrollments of nearly 30,000 students.
As a result, Amherst is a regional center of employment and innova...tion. It is comprised of a viable, mixed-use downtown business district and active village centers that are well connected with livable and diverse neighborhoods and campuses, and interwoven with protected open space, natural resources, and active farmland.
Amherst Town Center is located near the southern edge of the UMass campus and immediately north of the Amherst College campus. Amherst is connected to the region via extensive public transit lines. It is a 15 minute drive to I-91 exits at Northampton and Deerfield.
