A treasure nestled in the magnificent setting of the Texas Hill Country, Boerne (pronounced "Bernie") is only minutes north of San Antonio, via Interstate 10. Boerne is home to 14,725 and covers just over 11.6 square miles in Kendall County, currently the nation’s second fastest growing county. Boerne is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is composed of five Council members and the Mayor. A professional City Manager is hired by the Council to manage the day-today operations of the City.
The City is seeking an Assistant City Manager who is a strong, highly creative, visionary, but grounded Servant Leader with an entrepreneurial spirit, outgoing personality, and highly advanced interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be a mature, thoughtful, ethical, transparent, disciplined, steadfastly strategic, collaborative, and results-driven municipal manager who inspires and motivates others by example. The person selected will smoothly facilitate Boerne’s evolution from a small Hill Country town to a uniquely livable and sustainable metro community by artfully blending its rich past with a bright future.
A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, urban planning, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required; however, a master’s degree is preferred. Seven or more years of progressively responsible municipal government experience, including five years of experience at a department head level or higher, is required. Planning and economic development experience in high quality, growth-oriented communities is preferred. The City of Boerne offers a starting salary range between $130,000 and $150,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
