The Risk Management Services Department of the Maine Municipal Association provides a wide range of property and liability coverages for municipalities and quasi-public entities in the State of Maine. The Workers Compensation program which started in 1978, is the largest group self-insurer in the state. The self-insured Property and Casualty program has provided property and liability coverage, including professional liability, for municipalities since 1987. Risk Management Services performs all the services related to the programs, including ratemaking, underwriting, marketing, loss control and claims management through its in-house staff of 42 insurance professionals.
The Director of RMS directs all underwriting, marketing, claims management and loss control activities for all programs, including direction and oversight of Third Party Administration contracts with self-insured municipalities and public entities. In addition, this senior level position has oversight of work by outside brokers, actuaries and auditors. The programs are governed by the Association’s Board of Directors.
Primary pre-requisites for this highly visible position include the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, possess strong leadership skills and solid management expertise. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in a highly responsible risk management and/or insurance management position or related field. A Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, insurance or related field required with a Master’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of insurance or business management experience and professional development including CPCU, ARM or AIM designations highly desirable
